Tehelka, an Indian Independent weekly news magazine is now trying to tap into hindi speaking market. Tehelka was forced to close down temporarily due to hostile government action following Operation West End, a major expose on corruption in defense procurements. In 2003, it was relaunched as a weekly newspaper. In 2007, it once again underwent a transformation, and shifted to a regular magazine format. In September 2007, Tehelka came up with a Hindi news based web portal "Tehelka Hindi".
The Tehelka Samachar magazine hit the newsstand this month. A fortnightly, Tehelka Samachar is priced at Rs 20. The editorial team is led by Tarun Tejpal, Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka.com, while Sanjay Dube is the Senior Editor for Tehelka Samachar.
Tehelka Samachar covers varied topics ranging from politics, culture, and art to Bollywood, cricket, etc.
"We are targeting a print run of 70,000 copies for the first issue. We will calibrate it as we move forward", said Neena Tejpal
