Google is offering its Secured Socket Layer (SSL) support for its web searches, earlier it was only provided for Gmail and Google Docs. Users can easily recognize the SSL connection by looking at “https” or “protected” flag on the web browser.

SSL supported site gives protection to the information you transmit by encrypting the data, which means the data you send out is being protected from people and bots that is monitoring your network.

It is common for e-commerce and e-mail site to have a SSL protection. This encrypted Google search will be help full when you are in public place which has a Wi –Fi access. You can get your SSL protection for your Google search by visiting https://www.google.com . Google is still redirecting all HTTPS requests to the regular Google homepage, but this should change over the course of the day. Google clearly noted in its blog that the SSL support is still in testing stage (Beta Stage).

Don’t get away by SSL support, that you can keep Google from retaining your search information. Google will only be encrypting your connection; it will still maintain the same search data that it always maintains. The SSL or encrypted support is only for the basic web search and doesn’t support image search or maps.

Google hopes to add broader SSL support to more of its search products in the future.
