With the launch of this new low cost mobile phone the company expects to increase its user base in rural areas. In India, it is expected that device availability will reach 60 percent of the population.
Both the phones comes with a voice and SMS services, color screen, FM radio as well as support for mobile payment services.
The company believes that Vodafone 150 is the cheapest mobile phone available in the market. The display screen of Vodafone 250 is larger than that of Vodafone 150. The Vodafone 150 will be tagged less than $15 and Vodafone 250 less than $20.
Patrick Chomet, Vodafone’s Group Director of Terminals said that,” The price of mobile phones can be one of the most significant barriers for people in accessing and benefiting from the growing number of socially valuable mobile services. The lives of people who use these phones – the Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 – will be changed and improved as they become part of the mobile society. I am proud of the work we have done and will continue to do in this critical area of customer empowerment.”
Vodafone will launch this device in few weeks in India as well as The Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa and Tanzania regions.
