The cheapest mobile phone available in the Indian market is around Rs.1200 to Rs.1800. For example the Nokia 1280 is priced at Rs.1500 is the lowest phone from Nokia. A new report suggests that the company is planning to launch new phone for just Rs.500. It is believed that the new phone will have features similar to 1280 but for Rs.500.
The penetration of mobile phones in rural India is very low, and this is the reason why the company is providing low cost basic phone to attract India’s rural market as this is going to be next big opportunity.
It is rumored that the phone will be a limited edition device with a limited production run. That is something strange because Nokia has been known to flood the market with low-end gadgets.
