The new version of Ovi maps which provide turn by turn GPS navigation has been launched by Nokia. It supports walk and drive navigation feature which can be used for free.

This new Ovi maps provide information’s of 74 countries, in 46 languages with road traffic information’s of more than 10 countries.

From this march all Nokia Smartphone will have this new Ovi maps installed and other users can download it from Ovi maps site. Right now only few models are supported, and they are the Nokia N97 mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 Navigator, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 Navigator, 6730 classic and X6

Nokia wants to double its GPS navigation user base from 27 million in 2009 to 50 million by the end of this year.Ovi maps are entirely different from other maps as it uses hybrid vector maps which is less heavy than typical map images.

This results in the quick response time and increases faster updating. Other important feature is that they don’t require a network connection to function.
