Microsoft Corporation has announced that the next generation of operating system, Windows 8, will be available from 26th October of this year. It is an operating system which has been made for people who are slowly shifting from personal computers to smartphones.
Windows 8 is going to be made available in one hundred and nine languages. It is going to be marketed in over two hundred markets all over the world. The new operating system is going to be available from next month for computers, smartphones and tablet makers to build into their hardware. Marketing effort of this magnitude will make Windows 8 the biggest deal for Microsoft Corporation to have happened in the last seventeen years since the launch of the Windows 95 operating system.
Microsoft had presented the Windows 7 system exactly three years ago. It has sold more than six hundred million licenses of Windows 7 since then and the software is being used by a majority of business desktop PCs. Windows 8 will also be used on many smartphones and tablet computers including Microsoft’s own tablet, Surface, which is to be launched this year.
The Surface tablets of Microsoft will come out in the market when the Windows 8 operating system becomes available to the public in the month of October. Windows 8 will allow users to easily share and store personal information among several devices under the cloud-based computing service of Sky Drive.
Windows 8 will support a large range of devices including the stylus-based and touch smartphones, tablet PCs, desktops and laptops. Some versions of Windows 8 have been specially designed for chips that are meant for various mobile phones.
With Windows 8, Microsoft may just stretch its presence in the big market for smartphones and tablets that is, at present, heavily dominated by Apple and Google.
