The Away Record of Dhoni has taken a Beating

User Rating: / 0

The captaincy record of Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ruined as far as away tests are concerned with the help of seven consecutive defeats in England and now in Australia. Just after the World Cup last year and the West Indies tour, India had played twelve tests abroad under the leadership of Dhoni, of which they had won five and lost only two. The record now is played nineteen, won five and lost nine. At home, Dhoni has led India in eighteen tests, won twelve and there is only one defeat to South Africa. Dhoni is now stuck with his overseas record for quite some time as he has been suspended from the forthcoming Adelaide test for a repeat over rate offence.

India does not have any overseas tour in their itinerary this year. As far as overall record of Captains with the largest difference between home and away tests is concerned, Mohammad Azharuddin leads the pack with a differential of 67%. Dhoni is sixth in that list. Mohammad Azharuddin’s record shows that he won only one test out of twenty seven tests played abroad as captain. Sachin Tendulkar is fifth in that all time list and he did not manage to win even a single test as a Captain in the overseas tests. He played thirteen tests abroad as a captain, lost six and drew seven of them. The other three captains in that list are A. H. Kardar of Pakistan, Courtney Walsh of West Indies and Bob Willis of England.
