The Financial Capital of Switzerland

The financial streets of Geneva are pretty. There is no dearth of natural beauty in Switzerland’s financial capital. When you drive in the city, you will come across clean streets, manicured gardens and mansions. The cobbled streets in the old town of Geneva give a contrast to the modern architecture of the banking and shopping districts backed by the snow-capped peaks of Mont Saleve and Mont Blanc.

One of the best hotels in Geneva is the Four Seasons’ property Hotel des Bergues. You can see Rolls Royces, Bentleys and Lamborghinis idling in valet. This hotel may mean business when it comes to opulence. This is one of the earliest hotels in Geneva dating back to 1834. The room tariff will start from 700 CHF per night (Helvetian/Swiss Francs).

Though Geneva is not huge in size, it is still a place to shop for luxury goods. Rue du Rhone and Rue du Marche are good both for shopping and sightseeing. You have a great range of designer clothing, watches and jewellery.

Many tourists come to Geneva to take their ski holidays in the Swiss Alps. The Bernise Alpine Range has some of the highest peaks in Europe. From the pretty town of Lauterbrunnen, you can take the almost vertical train ride up to the mountain side village of Murren and the Schilthorn Mountain.

The Alpine village of Leukerbad offers picture postcard type of scenery. You can get a plentiful supply of thermal healing spring water. This water has been used for medicinal purposes since the second century after Christ. You can sit in the warm spring waters and breathe in the fresh air.

Geneva is one of the wealthiest and most expensive cities in the world. Recently, a city survey has declared that Zurich is now officially the most expensive city in the world replacing Tokyo.
