The developments that have taken place recently indicate that the science fiction type futuristic SeaOrbiter vehicle is all ready for construction by October of this year. It is expected to be completed by end of next year.

SeaOrbiter is a vessel for the purpose of doing research and exploring the oceans. It resembles a space ship. It will allow scientists to conduct research while being positioned under the surface of the ocean. The study station is going to have laboratories, workshops, living quarters and will include a deck which is going to be pressurized to support professional divers or even submarines.

It is a project headed by the French architect, Jacques Rougerie. It is also the brain child of the oceanographer, Jacques Piccard and the astronaut, Jean-Loup Chretien. The project belongs to the `floating oceanographic laboratory’ organization. Its completion cost is estimated to be around fifty three million dollars.

Science fiction will become reality with the completion of this vessel. Jacques Rougerie has been working at its design for the last twelve years. This is going to be the first vertical ship to be made in the world and it will measure around one hundred and seventy feet in height. More than half of the vessel has to remain under the ocean to make this concept possible.

Its main aim will be to explore the large cross sections of the marine life in the oceans. The SeaOrbiter will be focusing to initiate a new system of scientific communication to enable the researchers to track marine life in real time.

A team of eighteen marine explorers will be living on board this vessel. They will be called oceanauts. The deck of the vessel is housing an open air observation terrace which is going to allow the scientists to study and document the migration of birds. The sections of the vessel which will be submerged in the ocean are going to feature panoramic windows to represent a state-of-the-art ocean observatory.
