Television first came to India [named as ‘Doordarshan’ (DD) on Sept 15, 1959 as the National Television Network of India. The first telecast started on Sept 15, 1959 in New Delhi. After a gap of about 13 years, s second television station was established in Mumbai (Maharashtra) in 1972 and by 1975 there were five more television stations at Srinagar (Kashmir), Amritsar (Punjab), Calcutta (West Bengal), Madras (Tamil Nadu) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). For many years the transmission was mainly in black & white.

 

In 1992, the government liberated its markets, opening them up to cable television. Five new channels belonging to the Hong Kong based STAR TV gave Indians a fresh breath of life. MTV, STAR Plus, BBC, Prime Sports and STAR Chinese Channel were the 5 channels. Zee TV was the first private owned Indian channel to broadcast over cable. A few years later CNN, Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel made its foray into India. Star expanded its bouquet introducing STAR World, STAR Sports, ESPN and STAR Gold.

 

The Bollywood hottie has beaten the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Aishwarya Rai on web search.

 

As I mentioned that in my previous post "Shilpa Among top 15 queries", India has reason to be proud of Shilpa Shetty once again. The bad press that her 'kiss-episode' with Hollywood's Richard Gere generated has only made the Bollywood hottie a force to reckon with on the international marquee. Shilpa has beaten international celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, Eva Longoria, and back home even Aishwarya Rai, to become the uncrowned queen of the cyber universe.

 

As of today, she's the number one actor on a leading international search engine while she ranks number two in the overall search, second only to American Idol. On the IMDB website, the actress is at number 21, having moved up 23,261 per cent within a week.

 

 

 

Its funny when you see some discussions like this. Today I just stumble upon this wikipedia article where there is a big fight going on between the user who wrote the article and the admin(may be) of wikipedia.

 

So out of curiosity I found out more details about this "discussion". Apparently when you go to WikiPedia.org and find out the "Preity Zinta" page, you will see a message saying

On that page if you click on a discussion tab, you will see a "Debate" going on for preity zinta. Few topics that are being discussed

The big day has finally arrived and the bride Ash and groom Abhi are contented and happy to tie the knot. The festivities began on 18 April and will culminate with the wedding on 20 April. There was revelry and celebration bollywood style for the sangeet, mehndi and now for the wedding too. Only a select few like Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty, Sonali Bendre etc from bollywood were invited for this happy but private occasion. The media and crazy fans were kept at bay. However no one could exclude themselves from this joyous occasion and fans from all over the city trooped in to catch a glimpse of Ash, Abhi and other bollywood celebs.

The sangeet was complete bollywood style with both the Rais and Bachchans as well as their friends putting up dance performances. The highlight of the sangeet was a dance performance put up by Ash-Abhi and another dance performance by Amitabh-Jaya. There was plenty of laughter, food and happiness all around the couple.
