3 IDIOTSt is actually 3 engineering students story whose belief in life is “We can Do It on Our Terms”. Its like 'I'll Do It On my Terms' (IDIOT).
3 IDIOTS is based on a novel 'Five Point Someone' by Chetan Bhagat but has its own way of conveying the message.
2 friends (Sharman Joshi & R. Madhavan) go on board in search of their missing buddy. They travel through perilous & dangerous landscapes of Manali, Shimla & Ladakh. So here comes in flash back their inner trip via memory pathway i.e. automatic flashback story & then their friend’s story comes into limelight – Rancho (Aamir) is an ir’repressible free spirit, who had touched/marked & changed their lives.
It's a story of their hostel days that swings between Rancho's romance with the spirited Pia [Kareena Kapoor] and his clash with and oppressive mentor, Viru Sahastrabudhhe [Boman Irani]. And then one day, suddenly, Rancho vanishes
Who was Rancho? Where did he come from? Why did he leave? The friend who influenced and inspired them to think creatively and independently, even as the conformist world called them three idiots. Where is the original idiot now?
Check out Taran Adarsh's interview with Rajkumar Hirani which talks about some interesting things about the making of 3 idiots and working with Amir Khan. Its an interesting review of 3 Idiots from Taran Adarsh and Rajkumar Hirani.
