Office goers or commuters who live nearby and have a common destination falls into the category of ‘carpool’ arrangement. In simple terms ‘carpooling’ is cost saving, particularly for those commuters who travel long distances from their residence to office everyday. It is beneficial for those individuals who have limited access to public and private transportation.

Carpooling is still in its infancy in India, but those who operate the portal are trying to steer it ahead, offering free advertisement postings for potential carpoolers.

There are few websites (or you can call portals) who are offering "Carpooling" feature for the community.

One of the site IndiMoto.com conducted a survey from the visitor of their site and found out that the maximum car-poolers belong to New Delhi ( 53%) with Mumbai second at 26%. Now this survey might be for indiMoto.com site visitors.

There are few more players in this "carpooling" game.

Recently I found out one question in "Yahoo Answers" about Carpooling in Bangalore.

Well there is one website for car pooling in Bangalore as well. The site called CommuteEasy.com. This site also started its service in Pune.

The site has few good features. One fo them is "FLEXI Pooling". For e.g.

You dont want to take your transport because:

• You wake up one fine day and dont feel like driving yourself.
• You would get late at work and and the company will provide transport late night.
• You want to have a couple of beers with friends at night and dont believe in drinking and driving. So dont want to take your own transport :)

All you need to do is send an SMS to the designated number (given at commuteEasy.com website) and all the commuter associated with your capool will be notified.

CommuteEasy has 2924 Registered Users

There is one more website called "Carpool.in". Also provides same features.

  What is the use of website if carpool is not secure? I like www.poolmycar.in .
  It provided safty too while pooling with strangers. While joining pools , it
  generates a security certificate which has all info about people pooling
  together. :)
