Looks like Google News has silently rolled out its "local news" version. Google news is basically an aggregation of news from around different sources which gives you upto date news
Today Google has released new feature to find your local news by simply typing in a city name or zip code (for USA only I believe). So if you are looking for news just for mumbai, you can just type in "Mumbai" in the search box and the news results will be local to mumbai.

The advantage here is that Google can create a local section for any city, state or country in the world and include thousands of sources. Google news analyzes every word in every story to understand what location the news is about and where the source is located.
For example, check out the local news for Ahmedabad.
