Twitter is no longer a service for teenagers to text about their stupid daily activities. Twitter is a way for media and celebrities to communicate with their fans and audiences. Most of the Hollywood and bollywood celebrities are now coming out of their "privacy" and becoming more active on social networking sites. Just take Amitabh Bachchan for example, he announced his daughter-in-law Aishwarya's pregnancy on Twitter.

So who are those top Indian celebrities who achieved 1 million+ twitter followers? Lets take a look

Sachin Tendulkar

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who became GOD after hitting 200 runs in ODI also created a history by becoming the first Indian to get one million followers on Twitter.com. He started using his twitter account back in May 2010 and in April 2011 he reached the 1 million followers mark.

Shashi Tharoor

Diplomat-turned politicianthe, Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor was the first one to set the Twitter on blaze. He was the one who actively started using Twitter to reach his fans/followers. 

An early adapter to Twitter, Tharoor was a trailblazer among Indian politicians in using it as an interactive medium to connect with people. It also brought him quite some criticism when he remarked on travelling cattle class by air.

 

 

Priyanka Chopra

The first Indian female celebrity to get 1 million twitter follower was Priyanka Chopra.

"Wow! A million. Thank you so much you guys. I feel very loved today. My twitter rockstars are the best. Big smile and loads of love," tweeted Priyanka on crossing the millionth mark. Priyanka reached 1 million followers in May 2011.

 

 

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan is the fourth and the first Bollywood Male celebrity to reach 1 million twitter followers. Certainly he is not the first one in India.
