Facebook Plans to Integrate Services with China's Baidu

According to Chinese based news website, Facebook has recently signed an agreement with Baidu Inc to grow the Social Networking business in China. This news is coming from unidentified source inside the Chinese search engine giant. Earlier, there was news in media that Facebook trying to explore new base in China market. Here Facebook aims to set up a brand new social-networking service with Chinese Internet Company.

News agencies reported the present agreement was followed by several meetings between Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg and Baidu CEO Robin Li. Report confirms The China website won’t able to integrate the Facebook’s original service; therefore they may plan something different out of whole deal.

Kaiser Kuo, a spokesman at Beijing-based Baidu, declined to comment on the report when reached by Media. Stephen Dolan, Singapore-based commercial director for Asia at Facebook, also declined to comment. (Courtesy: Bloomberg News)

“We are currently studying and learning about China, as part of evaluating any possible approaches that could benefit our users, developers and advertisers,” Palo Alto, California- based Facebook said in an e-mailed statement at the time.

Hu Yanping, Director of the Data Center of the China Internet, wrote on his Sina micro blog Friday that Facebook had officially signed contract with a local Chinese Internet company to create a new social-networking website in China. No such possibility of the new website to be completely integrated with Facebook.com.

China had 457 million Internet users by the end of last year, as increase in figure was about of 19.1 percent over 2009, according to the China Internet Network Information Center. In December last year, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg visited China, and met some technology companies including China Mobile, Baidu and Sina. Sources said, Facebook planned to make a new move for the Chinese market.

Earlier Chinese govt had banned pornography, gambling and content critical of the ruling Communist Party. Govt also blocked websites including Facebook, Twitter Inc. and Google Inc.’s Later Google pulled its search engine out of China to Hong Kong based site after deciding it would stop censoring its content.

China’s growth in internet segment is simply undefined, local tech firms have started so many services in the country to bid their international competitors as Baidu against Google, Sina as Twitter and on Facebook.
