On the 5^th Anniversary of Twitter, the company has announced a fresh set of stats about its traditional growth and usage, such as the fact that it took more than three years for users to send the first 1 billion "Tweets", an accomplished gift every week.

According to Company’s Official blog post, in the last few years the average number of Twitter messages sent per day has increased from 50 million in March 2010 to 140 million this month. Today an average of 460,000 Twitter accounts is created every day, while the numbers in mobile users has reached to 182 percent every year. On March 12, 2011, alone, 572,000 new Twitter accounts were created, wrote Carolyn Penner of Twitter's communications department, in a company blog. Penner mentioned about uni-directional flow cum growth rate in Tweets plus Tweetbuds. Penner also shared some of the examples where Tweets over flooded, the death of Michael Jackson generated 456 tweets per second on June 25, 2009 -- a record at the time or current massive earthquake in Japan. Today, on every measure of growth and engagement, Twitter is growing at a record pace, said Penner.

Over the past few months, Twitter has been regularly adding indigenous functionality to the service that in many odd cases gives tough competitions to other applications & developers. Earlier Twitter had cancelled many applications in the violation of terms & users' rights. Micro-blogging giant stated that it doesn't want developers creating client applications that imitate Twitter.com's fundamental user functionality.
