Google India Integrates Local Business Listings To Its Web Search.
I just found out about this today, as I was looking for Pune state transportation. I search for "Pune State Transport" in Google and I was surprised when I saw the phone numbers of Pune Bus Depots with their address as listed in the first few rows in the result page.
So I tried searching for different business in Google like "Mumbai Restaurants" and "Pune Petrol Pumps" and it gave me the consistant results displaying local business information fetched from local.google.co.in
Above screenshot is from the search "Pune Petrol Pumps" in Google. You can also give it a try for different business in your city. So far I tried Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and it all worked.
So let me put it in simple steps.
- Open up google home page by pointing your browser to www.google.co.in
- enter your query by putting city name first and then type of business. for eg. Delhi cold drinks
- See the results with loca business addresses and phone numbers.
It gives you an option to look for more local businesses, which then takes you to local.google.co.in site.
That is some cool enhancement to google search. I wonder what will happen to Guruji and other local startups who are struggling to be on top for local business searches.
