It is official that Indian currency now has a new face. Out of hundreds of participants for the Indian Rupee design contest, none of the candidate were selected. Instead a design from an IIT Student who infact was not even part of the contest, is finalized as a symbol for Indian Rupee.

So now that we have our Indian Rupee Symbol, how can you use that symbol in your day to day life? Well at least for now you can use it in your microsoft word documents.

So here are some ways you can use Indian Rupee symbol in Microsoft Wod

Indian Rupee Font Installer

Foradian Technologies have created an Indian Rupee font installer application for Windows.

Steps

1. Download the installer file from here.
2. Extract the files. (You will need winrar or 7zip installed in your PC to extract the files)
3. Double click on the Rupee_Font_Installer.exe
4. Click on "Install" button
5. Done. :)

Indian Rupee Symbol as Special Character

Raju Das has mapped the sign to the Rupee (Rs) sign available in Unicode character set, which is embedded to Unicode character U+20A8. So, if you send a file containing the symbol to someone else, and if that person does not have this font installed, the old Rs. symbol will be shown in that person’s computer instead of the new symbol. This is much better then showing some other character.

How to Use Indian Rupee Symbol on WordPress or Blogger or Website blog

A site called WebRupee has launched a new web service that will allow any blogger/website to convert 'Rs.' into Rs. symbol. You just have to follow the following steps to use Rupee symbol on your wordpress/blogger/joomla or any other website.

1. Add a stylesheet link in the head section of your webpage:
   

   <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://cdn.webrupee.com/font">

2. Add the following code enclosing your 'Rs.'
   

   <span>Rs.</span> 200

1. Just include the following javascript and it will update all the 'Rs' / 'Rs.' for you
   

   <script src="http://cdn.webrupee.com/js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Official Unicode U+0971

The Indian Government has proposed the Unicode character code U+0971 be assigned for the new Rupee symbol. So till the Unicode Consortium passes the official Unicode for U+0971, we will have to wait.
