I think they all are wrong. The reason behind global rice crisis is totally different. In October 2007, a new website was launched to feed the hungry people. The site is called FreeRice.com. The site has a English vocabulary game. You will be given a word, you have to click the answer that best defines the word.
I know this is a noble cause and while playing a simple game you are feeding a hugry person. But I was surprised when I looked at the site's statistics. If you answer 1 word, 20 grains of rice will be donated. Everyday millions of people visit the site. If you answer 1 word, 20 grains of rice will be donated.
According to WikiAnswers, 1 lb = 29,000 grains. From FreeRice.com's statistics, they donate ~ 231,998,940 grains of rice everyday.
So 231,998,940/29,000 ~ 8000 lb of rice.
1 lb ~ 0.454 kg.
8000 lb = 3632 kg rice
1 tonne = 1000 kg => 3632/1000 = 3.632 tonnes of rice per day is donated to feed the hungry people.
From October 2007 to April 2008, FreeRice.com has donated (((30,189,927,730/29000)*0.454)/1000) ~ 473 tonnes of rice.
SO what do you think? Is this the reason for Global Rice Crisis??
I am just kidding.. Please don't take it seriously.
