Online photo sharing sites are poping up everyday. Everyone now uploads their pictures on the internet. Whether its Flickr, Picasa or SnapFish. If you think about the storage, no worries there! Most of the online photo sharing sites provide unlimited storage for photos.

When you upload your photos to sites like Flickr, chances are that those photos will be viewed by millions of people unless you keep those pictures private. If the pictures are public, anyone can view the picture and can save or use it somewhere else. So how can you protect your photos? By adding a watermark to your pictures would help you.

There are different techniques that you can use to add a watermark to your flickr photos (or any photo). Flickr has opened up its APIs so that many image editing application has integrated Flickr. So now users can edit flickr photos from within those applications. Picnik is one of those image editing application. You can use picnik to add a watermark to your pictures.

There is another website called PicMarkr.com which lets you to add custom watermark (image or text) to your images online and free. It allows you to upload files from computer or grab them from your Flickr account. You can also do a batch process of upto 5 images at a time. The only downside I see is that you have to add those watermarks one by and and keep saving it on your computer and then upload it again to your favourite sites. That seems too much work.

The best way is to use Photoshop to add watermark to your pictures. If you don't have a photoshop, you can use GIMP, an open source image editing application. There are plenty of tutorial out there which can tell you how to protect your photos or watermark them with GIMP. Here is one that I found out.
