Looks like the new generation trend would be mobiles and wireless. No more fixed lines. Me and my wife both have cellphones and we don't have landline number. Who would pay for landline when you have mobiles. Specially if all your family members have mobiles you don't need landline phones.
According to AgencyFAQ, over half-a-million fixed line subscribers have switched to using cellphones in the past four months. We have seen aggressive marketing of tariff plans by cellular operators and declining tariffs.
If fixed lines providers want to fight back, they will have to change their current tariff plans. Instead of charging for each and every call, they should make a monthly charge and provide free local callings. For ex. charge some Rs. 250/- and make calls within Ahmedabad free.
In the US, local calls within cities are free, which gives an incentive for consumers to value their fixed lines too.
What do you have to say? Do you own landline phone or only mobile?
