Map Your Pictures with Flickr.com
Flickr, Yahoo's online photo sharing company has introduced set of mapping features that makes it easier to find photos based on their location. Flickr will unveil a way for Web users to browse photos from tens of millions of geographically located photos loaded up to its site.
The service is called "Places" identifies on a global map the latest hot-spots for photo contributions. Apparently, Flickr will allow uses to search by thousands of geographic place names to find photos associated with those places. The global map view lets Flickr users see the latest photos by theme. Clicking on a category tag will take them to a selection of photos, giving them a glimpse of what other Flickr users collectively find interesting or newsworthy.
The feature is designed to give the site more local appeal to users, as well as attract prospective travelers seeking to get beyond photos of landmarks for places they plan to visit. (via: Economic Times).
Flickr has already geotagged around 2.2 million photos this month. Looks like the feature is still not available for India or nobody in India has tagged any photos in India.

The tool is pretty easy to use. Once you login to your account, you can navigate to Organize. You will see an option called "Map" if that is available to your account. Once you click on that map tab, you will see a world map with options to view in hybrid mode, satelite mode or regular map mode. You will see all your pictures in the lower panel. You can drag and drop your picture to the location where you took the photo. If the map is not zoomed enough, it will prompt you to make zoom it to the level which makes it accurate to pin point the picture.
This will be fun to watch once all the photos are finally geotagged.
