Do You Love Gmail, Picasa? Be Prepared To Pay $$

Do you love gmail? Picasa Web? I love it too. Though I don't use picasa web that much, I like its features. You all must remember the days when Gmail was showing us the counter on its front page about how much space it is adding for each account every second. Oh boy, I was looking at the counter and thinking this is just amazing. Google is greate. Just because Google gave its users 2.some GB space, every other mail service got forced to give the same to their users.

Have you ever thought of deleting an email from Gmail? Who cares, we have 2GB space and its way more than enough. But think about it for a second, thats what we thought when the computers intially came into the market. Guess what is the situation right now? 80 or 100 GB is not enough now. We need external hard disks to store our data even for home computers.

Google has now introduced silently its new "feature". As you can see, Gmail space counter has stopped @ 2.8 GB. Similarly, Google gives 1GB for its picasa web users. But what if you exceed your 2.8 GB or 1GB space?

When you reach the limit of free storage, consider this your overflow solution. Google has introcuded plans that starts at $20/year for 6GB, with larger plans ranging up to 250GB.

Do you think people would pay $$ for gmail? I would say, almost every internet user who is using Gmail, definitely has some another email account. As every email service provider is giving now probably 2GB or more, users are definitely going to go for other alternates. Ofcourse you are not going to get Gmail features but if you are concern about Gmail features and you don't want to pay $$, start removing your unused/old/junk emails otherwise be prepared to pay.

Here is the offical Google Blog entry about this.

It's pocket change for a great service. Also, you can delete your emails.... Everything can't come for free.

why wouldnt you just delete your old/unneccessary emails? do you really need documented evidence of every single correspondence in your life?
