The cyber forensic group at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) has been helpful in solving several cyber crimes, including e-mail harassment and blackmailing using electronic means.
Recently, the forensic group exposed the identity of a person who tried to blackmail a Government official through e-mail. The agency is handling Voice Over Internet Protocol telephone racket cases busted by Vigilance Telecom Monitoring Cell and Central Bureau of Investigation.
Kerala State IT & C-DAC has lanched a web site CyberKeralam.in and a call center (phone number 0471- 2727004) to fight against cyber crime and also provide information on cyber crime.
The state IT is planning to deploy e-mail tracer software at all Akshaya centers in the State. The government has plans to install cyber forensic tools in 100 police stations across the state.
The site provides visitors with information on how they can deal with a cyber crime and has facilities for reporting a cyber crime. However, users will have to register with the site if they want to report a cyber crime.
The site also has general information on what cyber crime is, preventable measures, procedures to be followed while reporting a cyber crime, cyber forensics and so on. (The Hindu)
