Google is planning to launch  new module in Gmail to compete with FaceBook and Twiiter. The new Gmail module will allows its user to stream media and update their status. The module is user controlled as it can be enabled or disabled by the account holder.

Already Google has integrated streaming You Tube videos in Gchat, in addition to Picasa and Flicker media previews. Whatever the integration may be, the Google has a kill switch to bring the service back to normal.

It seems that this move is little less rival to Twitter as Google itself offers Twitter updates in its search. The battle is between Google and FaceBook, as it celebrated its 6th Birthday with redesigning its homepage, which included a new message inbox that echoes the Gmail format.

FaceBook has a user base of nearly 400 million, whereas Gmail has a user base of 176 million, according to tracking firm comScore.
