What do you think about this advertisement? Katie Couric trying to give you a check with the title "$26,383 Free checks", this was the advertisement I saw when I was going through my facebook account. At first I thought may be I missed this news so I clicked on the link and guess what?
I landed up on a webpage which says "Get your Government grant..How I got $12,000 in 30 days with a dead simple method". As soon as I saw it, I definitely knew that this is one of those scams. The site actually asks you to buy one of those "Free Grant Kit" which is actually not free but costs $1.99 (for shipping per say).
When you click on that free grant kit, it takes you to one of this site (check out the screenshot below) where they ask you to enter your name/email and phone. Be aware of these sites, they try to mimic that they have been featured on CNN/ABC/CBS/FOX etc but that is not true. If the site is legit, it will link back to those news channel. In this case it was not linking back to those news channel sites.
Looks like this free grant money scam is running for quite sometime but now it has taken new avatar and because of the bad economy, poeple might fall for such scams. I was surprised how Facebook can allow such scam advertisements though.
