According to NRS reports, radio is the media with the highest and fastest paced growth prospects in the country today. The revised license fee structure - from a flat fee model to a revenue sharing one announced in 2005 has been an advantageous move for the Indian Radio Industry
Which radio station you listen to ? Radio City, Radio Mirchi or Big FM ? For the last 6-7 years, the radio era started back again. Lot of FM stations are starting up now a days and these three are the top among all.
The original avatar of Radio Mirchi was Times FM, which began operation in 1993. Until 1993, All India Radio or AIR, a government undertaking, was the only radio broadcaster in India. The government then took the initiative to privatize the radio broadcasting sector. It sold airtime blocks on its FM channels in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Goa to private operators, who developed their own program content. The Times Group operated its brand, Times FM, till June 1998. After that, the government decided not to renew contracts given to private operators.

In 2000, the government announced the auction of 108 FM frequencies across India. ENIL won the largest number of frequencies, and thus started its operations under the brand name Radio Mirchi.
So that makes Radio Mirchi (FM 98.3) the first one to make a revolution into India.  Earlier available in the seven cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Indore and Ahmedabad, now it is also available in key markets of Bangalore,Hyderabad & Jaipur ,therby taking the tally to 10 stations across India.

Radio City ( FM 91.1) launched its first station in Bangalore and today they are present in Mumbai (where it was first started in 2004), Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Nagpur , Vizag, Coimbatore , Vadodara, Surat & Solapur, apart from the smaller centres in Western India.

Big FM(FM 92.7) is launched in India by The 22 billion $ Reliance ADA Group, Indian businessman Anil Ambani. Currently it covers 11 cities. This is the only private FM Radio which is being brodcast from Srinagar and Jammu in Jammu & Kashmir state. It announced to invest Rs. 400 crore dedicated to transmission equipment, infrastructure and licensing, the proposed network will be the largest ever. Its main tagline is Suno Sunao, Life Banao.

I think there is a need for radio stations to provide their services online. I have seen lot of radio stations fans abroad as well.  I encountered lot of questions on yahoo answers about Radio Mirchi availability on the internet. Currently none of these india radio are available online. They should think about this as a future enhancements (new features).

There are so many radio stations in UAE Dubai like City 101.6, HumFM who provide their service online for listeners outside of UAE. And I listen to their radio as well. Its good to have

Just found out URLs for listening to  Hyderabad Big FM 92.7 and Hyderabad Radio City 91.1.
