As per IAMAI forecasted estimates below e-commerce transactions will cross the Rs 2000 crore mark (2006-2007) which translates into an increase of over 300% from financial year 2004-05.

Male online users increased in absolute numbers but dipped from 72% (2004-05) to 68% (2005-06) . Women numbers increased from 28% in 2004-05 to 32% in 2005-06 [12.32 million]. The estimate for the male female ratio in the next 2 years is that it will be closer to the 60:40 ratio but will still result in the absolute numbers of men being higher then women. Senior Netizens above the age group of 61 years are a fast growing group online. The absolute numbers of Senior Netizen are expected to rise to 3 million by 2007-08. Online Ticket Buying 47% of Railway ticket purchasers are in the 26-35 age groups. 51% of railway ticket shoppers are ‘Married with kids’.
The % penetration is expected to remain the same or increase marginally from the current 2.7% to 3%.

Sales of Railway Tickets are highest in Mumbai (25%) & Delhi (21%) followed by Chennai (8%), Bangalore (7%), Ahmedabad (2%), Kanpur (2%). The 'Other cities and towns' (31%) completes the category. With greater Internet penetration coupled with the Railways impetus to increasing 'e' infrastructure the numbers for other cities will increase in the near future.
The 26-45 years age group is the highest purchaser of Hotel Rooms online accounting for 72% of purchases with a lion’s share of 53% falling in the 26-35 years age group.
88% of purchases of Hotel Rooms online are Male.
Mumbai and Delhi account for 58% of purchases of Movie Tickets Online as they have the highest density of Multiplexes followed by Bangalore (9%), Hyderabad (7%), Chennai (6%), Kolkatta (5%), and Ahmedabad (2%). With more and more multiplex infrastructure being groomed across the country, this latent demand will have to be met by Multiplex owners.
