I agree that there are people in India from specific regions that would like to buy this little toy for the show off and would buy it right away but if Apple is thinking about getting success with iPhone in India with this price, forget it. Indians will stick to Nokias for that matter. Nokia recently launched N96 in India.
I got this spreadsheet from Tauw.com which lists prices of iPhone worldwide. I also included India in the list. Looks like Indian iPhone will cost the most in the world. Another ridiculouse thing is that you need to do is drop in at a select Vodafone Store between August 20 and 21 and confirm your booking by paying Rs 10000 through cash or credit card.

Airtel also kept the same pricing for iPhone in India. Check out Airtel Website for further details.
I am also running the poll here for the iPhone enthusiasts and looks like 77% of people said they would not buy an iPhone if the price is more than Rs. 25,000. I don't blame them. Indians are not stupid. They would not burn their money for this gadgets. I bet, Indian will create iPhone's competitor in few months. We will be seeing lot more iPhone killer phones in near Future so I would not burn my money for this kind of expensive iPhone. You can do almost everything what iPhone can do with your Windows Mobile Phones such as Motorola Q (I own one).
What's your take on iPhone pricing in India??
