Warning - Facebook's The Password Stealing Virus

Facebook is one of the best social networking sites that have more than 400 million users. Now, Hackers have come with Virus stained spam email to target the Facebook users to steal banking information’s and hack other confidential information’s.

It happens this way, the Facebook User’s receives Spam Emails that instructs them that, passwords on their Facebook accounts has been reset and advice them to download an attachment to acquire their new login credentials.

McAfee Inc- Anti-virus software maker said on Wednesday that, “when the attachment is opened, numerous malicious software including the one which tries to steal passwords are automatically downloaded and run”. The Hackers have now targeted Facebook users, by sending them infected messages through the social networking company's own internal email system. The main advantage for the hackers is that, they can use ordinary Internet email to spread their malicious software.

A Facebook spokesman said that, “The Company has nothing to comment on this specific case”. But, he pointed to a status update that was posted by it on Wednesday on Facebook, warning its users about the email attachment and advising them to delete the email & attachment and also warn their friends about it. McAfee estimates that hackers have sent out more than tens of millions of spam in U.S.A, Europe and Asia since the campaign began on Tuesday.

Dave Marcus, McAfee's director of malware research and communications, said that “The hackers will succeed in infecting millions of computers. With Facebook potentially having more than 400 million users, if the hackers can get 10 percent of them clicking on the email attachment, which means that 40 million users gets affected, which would be great success for those hackers”.

Marcus also informed that, “The email that is being dispatched to the user contains the subject named, ‘Facebook password reset confirmation customer support’ ”. So, all Facebook users should make note of their emails, before opening it.
